As the first official single from our new album Let's THRAK Again, "Swimming in Tea" is a song that has lived many lives. Markus first penned the music and lyrics as a teenager, where it became a small hit performed with his high school band.

Decades later, it was resurrected for Stick Men, but completely transformed. We stripped away the vocals and cut the tempo in half, turning it into a heavy, brooding instrumental that we have performed live many dozen times over the years.

Now, the circle is complete. For the new album, we have recorded the song in its original, double-speed tempo, complete with the original lyrics.

This single release also features two distinct remixes by Stefano Castagna. Diving deep into experimental electronic textures, Stefano’s mixes dial up the intensity and tempo, offering a completely different sonic perspective on a track almost forty years in the making.

Brutal is a concentrated burst of energy and invention from Stick Men — our new 25-minute studio EP featuring five brand-new compositions. It’s our first collection of freshly recorded material in several years, and a bold step forward in sound, feel, and expression.

This release is the prelude to a full-length studio album, coming in autumn 2025. Recorded and mixed with immediacy and raw clarity, these five tracks represent the core of what Stick Men are about right now: muscular grooves, intricate interplay, and an uncompromising artistic vision.

Proving conclusively that the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts, this herculean effort exceeds any perceived limitations of the trio format -- satisfying even the most devout and demanding of listeners.

Long-time fans of Stick Men and King Crimson will revel in ecstasy, as the three sonic adventurers gleefully waltz to the outer fringes, while remaining sure-footed through every scene. The chemistry of Levin and Mastelotto has never been more evident, keeping a solid, propulsive undercurrent flowing beneath the soaring presence of the ingenious 'mad scientist' antics of Reuter. ... and a profound presence Markus Reuter does prove himself to be. One could be quickly forgiven for mistaking his avid, searching, convicted playing for that of Master Fripp, if administered under blindfold!

The album's ten compositions showcase Stick Men at their most versatile and enterprising; there's even some superb vocals (and vocal arrangements).
